What is LiveTap?

  • LiveTap is a tap to phone app that turns your Android phone into a contactless payment device.

  • LiveTap makes taking payments from your customers easy with no extra equipment or hardware.

What do I need and how do I get started?

  • LiveTap is currently available only on NFC enabled Android phones.

  • To run LiveTap you will need:

    • Stable internet connection

    • Minimum supported Android version 8.0

    • A Live Payments MyWeb account

    • The LiveTap app and plugin 

    • LiveTap can only be supported in light mode currently 

How do I explain LiveTap to my customers?

  • This is a tap on phone app which means you can tap your card or digital wallet against my Android phone to make a payment.

  • It is highly secure and is another way to take payments without a terminal or card reader.

What does my customer need to do to pay?

  • After entering the payment details and pressing charge the ‘Tap and hold’ screen is displayed on your phone. 

  • Ask your customer to tap their card or digital wallet against the back of your phone in the location where the NFC chip is located.

  • Your customer will need to hold their card or digital wallet against your phone until you see the spinning circle which indicates the payment is processing.



What is NFC (Near Field Communication)?


  • NFC is a proximity-based wireless communication standard which enables data sharing between devices like smart phones, tablets and laptops

  • NFC is limited to an extremely short range

  • The NFC chip on your phone will pick up the contactless enabled card or card in the cardholder's digital wallet so that the payment can be processed


Where is the NFC located on my phone


  • In an Android phone, the NFC is located on the back of the device but for every phone it will be in a different location

  • To find out where your NFC is located, search for the NFC location for your device on a search engine

  • Once you have located it, test a few transactions for small amounts so that you can be familiar with where your customer needs to hold their card or phone 

What payment methods are currently supported by LiveTap?

  • Current supported methods:

    • Visa

    • Mastercard

    • Apple pay

    • Google pay

    • Samsung pay

    • Garmin pay

  • Coming soon:

    • Amex

    • Pin payment

    • Eftpos

How do I get paid?

  • You will be paid to your existing nominated bank account on file for your business.

  • Settlements in line with your existing settlement period on other Live Payments products

What if I lose internet connection while the payment is processing?

  • If the payment processed successfully it will appear in your recent transactions.

  • If it doesn’t appear in recent transactions or you cannot connect to the internet you will need to contact us to check the transaction status.

What if my phone runs out of battery while the payment is processing?

  • If the payment processed successfully it will appear in your recent transactions.

  • If it doesn’t appear in recent transactions or you cannot recharge your phone you will need to contact us to check the transaction status.

Can I use LiveTap anywhere?

  • LiveTap can be used anywhere your phone can go (within Australia) as long as you have internet connection.
