Getting Started with Pay by Link

Getting Started with Pay by Link

Pay by Link lets you accept card payments from your customers without a website or any technical setup. Create a secure payment page, share it as a link, button, or QR code, and get paid — no coding required.

Before you begin

To use Pay by Link you need two things active:

A Live Payments merchant account — if you don't have one yet, contact us to apply.
An active CyberSource account — provisioned by Live Payments when your application is approved.
Look out for an email from CyberSource Although Live Payments creates your account, the activation email is sent directly from CyberSource. If you can't find it, check your spam or junk folder.

Getting set up

1

Activate your CyberSource account

Open the activation email from CyberSource and complete the following:

1.Click the activation link before it expires.
2.Create your password.
3.Note your Organisation ID — you'll need this every time you log in.
2

Log in to the Business Center

Go to: https://businesscenter.cybersource.com/ebc2/

Enter your Organisation ID and password. CyberSource will send a one-time passcode to your email to verify your identity.

3

Set up your branding Recommended

Do this once before creating your first link so your payment page looks professional to customers.

1.In the left menu, go to Pay by Link → Settings.
2.Under Branding, enter your business name, logo, and brand colour.
3.Change Currency to AUD — the default is USD and won't work for Australian merchants.
4.Click Save.
Currency must be set to AUD The default currency is USD. Payments will not process correctly until you change this to AUD.

Go to Pay by Link → Manage Links and click Create Pay by Link.

Step 1 — Choose your link type

Fixed price

You set the amount. Best for products or services with a set cost.

Customer-set price

The customer enters the amount. Best for donations or flexible deposits.

Step 2 — Fill in item details

Item name
Description Optional
Price (or minimum amount for customer-set links)
Max quantity — maximum units per purchase. Default is 1.
Expiry date Optional — the date the link stops accepting payments.

Step 3 — Choose what to collect from customers

Shipping address Optional
Phone number Optional
Email address

Click Create Pay by Link to save. Your new link will appear on the Manage Links page.

Only Active links can be shared Links set to Inactive cannot be used by customers. Check the status before sharing.

Open your link from the Manage Links page. Choose how to share it:

Method How to use it
Payment link Click Copy Link and paste it anywhere — email, SMS, invoice, or social media.
Website button Click Copy Code to copy the HTML embed code. Click Preview Button to see how it looks first.
QR code Click Get Code then Download to save the image. Share it on flyers, menus, or receipts.

Editing a link

Go to Pay by Link → Manage Links, click the link name, then click Edit in the Summary panel. You can update the link type, item details, price, quantity, customer fields, expiry date, and status.

Deactivating a link

Open the link from Manage Links and set Status to Inactive. Customers will no longer be able to use it.

Setting an expiry date

You can add an expiry date when creating or editing a link. When a link expires:

The status does not automatically change to Inactive — you'll need to do this manually if required.
Customers who click the link will see a message saying the link has expired and to contact you.
Expiry dates are stored in GMT and displayed to customers in their local time zone.
Receipt links expire after 30 days Encourage customers to save their receipt email promptly after paying.

Post-payment redirects Optional

You can redirect customers to pages on your website after a payment completes. Go to Pay by Link → Manage Links → Checkout Page tab and enter URLs for:

Payment Success URL — page shown after a successful payment
Payment Failure URL — page shown after a declined payment
Payment Pending URL — page shown for a pending payment

Click Save. These settings apply to all your payment links. If you leave a field blank, customers see the default CyberSource response page. Customers still receive email receipts regardless of redirect settings.
